How To Update Kodi Raspberry Pi 3

Hi,

My setup runs Kodi xviii.7 on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running Raspbian Buster.

Every time I start it upward it complains that 18.7 is not the latest release.

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y does non perform any update.

Is in that location a fashion to upgrade?

Is this desirable?

There is an officially newer version of Kodi, just not for the RPi3B+. So I'grand non quite agreement why Raspbian cannot brand that distinction.

Check in My Add-ons if you have the add-on Version Check.
If so, disable information technology.

Check in My Add-ons if you lot have the improver Version Bank check.
If and then, disable it.

I've disabled the Version Check add-on, thanks for the tip.

Will there ever be an upgrade for the RPi3B+? That HW is not that old...

Well, in your case that's fully upward to the Debian/Raspbian people. Simply .. The futurity is not that bright anymore for the RPi3B+. So if you can, and you don't demand that latest gizmos in Kodi 19, simply stick to Kodi eighteen on the RPi3B+.

LibreELEC yet has nightly builds for Kodi nineteen, notwithstanding, non all previous functionality is available. The biggest axe is HEVC support that was working on K18, is not available on K19. All due to the new video driver model that has been implemented with newer and more generic video techniques. The goal is to have the smallest amount of software solutions as possible for many dissimilar devices. Having to maintain a separate software solution for only about every device (Android, RPi 0-one,two-three,four, Rockchip, Allwinner, AMLogic and so on) has get way as well fourth dimension- and endeavor-consuming. These new video techniques also work better/best with at least 2GB of retentivity. That'due south also where the RPi3B+ falls behind.

I don't employ video on that setup, only playing music off my DLNA server and from webradios. And equally a bonus, showing the weather forecast.

Where can I find the listing of new features in Kodi xix?

Is Kodi xviii.ten still actively maintained (bugfixes, security fixes...)?

No. K19 is the one up for problems fixes and (tiny) improvements.
Right now, all dev efforts go into 19x and 20.x .
